MuBANY Congratulates Judge Shabuddeen Ally On His Historic Appointments

MuBANY congratulates Judge Shahabuddeen Ally for his historic appointment as Supervising Judge of New York County Civil Court. Supervising Judges are responsible for management of the trial courts, including court caseloads, personnel, and budget administration.Prior to this appointment, Judge Ally was the first male Muslim member of the state judiciary.

In addition to this landmark appointment, Judge Ally has also been appointed to the Franklin H. Williams Commission - the New York Unified Court System’s commission  designed to address racial and cultural issues within the court system. It is an incredible distinction to have Judge Ally, as one of the first Muslim judges in the State, on this commission to help increase the judiciary’s racial and cultural diversity.

“I’m excited for this new role and challenge. This appointment shows the Court’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Representation matters - having a place in leadership matters,” says Judge Ally.  Judge Ally is now one of two Muslim Supervising Judges of a Civil Court in New York, joining the Hon. Carolyn Walker-Diallo, a Supervising Judge in Kings County.

We are grateful to Judge Ally for trailblazing this path in New York and congratulate him on his achievements. The importance of a diverse judiciary cannot be understated and to further that cause, MuBANY’s is proud to announce its Judiciary Initiative which willidentify and create pipelines to opportunities within both the state and federal judiciaries for our members and other under-represented communities. Please stay tuned for more information on this initiative in the coming weeks.
